Mumbai metro is different: your bill header may show Adani Electricity Mumbai, Tata Power, or BEST depending on address. Each has its own rooftop solar / net-metering portal steps even though PM Surya Ghar CFA bands are national. Pick the wrong utility on the portal and you lose weeks.

Apply on the national portal selecting MSEDCL, then follow DISCOM feasibility and net-meter steps. Smaller residential plants often move under simplified or deemed-approval paths when complete applications stay within published capacity rules — still confirm live MSEDCL wording before installing.
If applied PV capacity exceeds sanctioned load, MSEDCL may auto-create a load-enhancement path with charges. Do not treat that as free upsizing.
Independent bungalows with clear roof rights move faster. Flats on common terraces usually need society resolution / NOC — often the longest calendar item in Pune and Mumbai societies. Run bill maths first so you do not burn AGM cycles on a plant that never pays back.
