PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana — what Indian homeowners actually get

Central financial assistance for residential rooftop solar, paid to your bank after commissioning. Sealix helps you see if your bill justifies the net cost — then you apply on the official portal.

CFA amounts

Central subsidy (typical published structure)

Figures below are the widely published PM Surya Ghar residential CFA bands. Rules and portal wording can change — always confirm on pmsuryaghar.gov.in before you decide.

System sizeCentral subsidyHow it stacks
1 kW₹30,000₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW
2 kW₹60,000Full amount for 2 kW
3 kW or more₹78,000 max₹60,000 for first 2 kW + ₹18,000 for the 3rd kW; no extra CFA beyond 3 kW

State or district top-ups (if any) are separate from this central CFA. Group housing / RWA common-area rules differ from individual homes — check the portal, not a brochure.

Who is usually eligible?

Usually outside this CFA path: commercial and industrial meters, tenants without the owner’s involvement, and anyone installing before DISCOM feasibility when the portal requires approval first.

Documents homeowners typically need

Sealix does not collect Aadhaar on this website. KYC stays on the official portal and with your chosen empanelled vendor.

Simplified journey (national portal)

  1. Judge bill fit with a free Sealix home check (optional but useful — avoids undersizing or oversizing).
  2. Register and apply on pmsuryaghar.gov.in.
  3. Wait for DISCOM feasibility / deemed approval as applicable for your size and state.
  4. Choose an empanelled vendor; install only after the portal / DISCOM step your state requires.
  5. Inspection, net meter commissioning, upload commissioning proof — then CFA as DBT to your bank.

Timelines vary widely by DISCOM queue. Expect weeks to a few months end-to-end, not “install tomorrow, subsidy today.”

Where Sealix fits

We are an independent advisory layer for homeowners: subsidy framing, savings logic, and payback from your bill. We are not the government, and we do not claim to be your installer. Partners visit only if the numbers make sense. For AP & Telangana DISCOM notes see also our subsidy page; for cities see areas.

FAQ

Common confusions

“Muft bijli” means free panels for every house

The branding emphasises free or near-free units after a subsidised plant is running — not a guarantee of zero-rupee hardware for every applicant. You still fund the net cost after CFA.

Can any shop credit subsidy in cash?

Prefer portal-tracked DBT after commissioning. Treat “we’ll adjust subsidy in cash today” pitches with caution; verify vendor empanelment on the official lists.

Does every state add extra subsidy?

No. Many homes rely on central CFA alone. Maharashtra, Karnataka, AP, Telangana and others may announce pilots or top-ups — check state energy / DISCOM notices, then still run your bill maths.
