Tamil Nadu
Independent advice for domestic TANGEDCO connections from Chennai to Coimbatore and Madurai. Strong sun, but northeast monsoon and slab tariffs still decide payback — not brochure kWh alone.
Tamil Nadu’s domestic tariff slabs can push mid-use homes into steep marginal rates — which helps solar economics when the bill is real. Sealix advises; we are not TANGEDCO and not your installer. Run the free home check before chasing subsidy headlines.
Unlike Maharashtra or Karnataka, most Tamil Nadu domestic homes sit on a single distribution company: TANGEDCO. Rooftop solar applications under PM Surya Ghar select TANGEDCO on pmsuryaghar.gov.in, then follow TANGEDCO feasibility, net-meter installation, and commissioning steps published on the DISCOM portal.
Load enhancement may be triggered if applied PV capacity exceeds sanctioned load — factor any published charges into net economics, not just panel price minus subsidy.
Central residential CFA is commonly ₹30,000 / ₹60,000 / up to ₹78,000 for eligible 1–3 kW+ systems after commissioning. National walkthrough: PM Surya Ghar guide.
Tamil Nadu has announced or discussed additional state support layered on central CFA for domestic rooftop solar — amounts and eligibility windows shift with government orders. Do not size a plant assuming a state top-up is locked in until your installer quote and official TANGEDCO / state energy department notice match the same commissioning date.
Plan payback on central CFA alone; treat any state top-up as upside if it clears at commissioning — not as guaranteed cash flow in month one.
Northeast monsoon (roughly October–December) and summer convection storms reduce generation versus dry-season peaks. Coastal Chennai homes also deal with salt-laden air — maintenance and inverter placement matter for long-term yield, not just day-one commissioning.
Flat societies on common terraces usually need society NOC before TANGEDCO will move. Independent houses with clear roof rights often move faster. For Chennai-specific slab context and typical 3 kW sizing: rooftop solar in Chennai.
Many mid-bill TN homes land near 3 kW to capture the full central CFA ceiling. Going to 5 kW adds capacity with no extra central CFA — only worth it if units truly exceed what 3 kW offsets. See 3 kW vs 5 kW and net metering in India.
