Rooftop solar for Rajasthan homes — high sun, three DISCOMs, bill first

Independent advice for domestic connections across Rajasthan’s JVVNL, AVVNL, and JdVVNL zones. Excellent irradiance helps generation; your slab bill and sanctioned load still decide whether 2–3 kW pays back after central CFA.

Rajasthan is among India’s sunniest states — annual kWh per kW installed often beats coastal metros by a wide margin. That helps payback, but it does not override a low domestic bill, a west-facing terrace, or a “free solar” headline that does not apply to your household. Sealix advises; we are not your DISCOM and not your installer. Start with the free home check.

Which DISCOM is on your bill?

Rajasthan domestic supply routes through three distribution companies. Read your bill header before selecting on pmsuryaghar.gov.in — wrong selection stalls feasibility for weeks.

Capacity is often constrained by sanctioned load under RERC net-metering rules — confirm live JVVNL / AVVNL / JdVVNL and RERC wording before upsizing past your connection.

PM Surya Ghar CFA

Central residential CFA is commonly ₹30,000 / ₹60,000 / up to ₹78,000 for eligible 1–3 kW+ systems after commissioning. Apply on the national portal, select the correct Rajasthan DISCOM, wait for feasibility, install with an empanelled vendor, then net meter and DBT. Full walkthrough: PM Surya Ghar guide.

Rajasthan special schemes — not universal

Rajasthan has publicised programmes that combine central support with a state amount for certain households already on free-unit schemes, sometimes framed as making a small (~1.1 kW) plant effectively free for eligible consumers shifting to ~150 solar-backed units. Those packages are not universal. If you are not on the stated free-power cohort, or your bill is far above that band, model standard PM Surya Ghar CFA + your actual consumption instead of a “free solar” pitch from a vendor.

Do not assume every Rajasthan home gets zero upfront cost. Watch official notices on the state energy department portal and your DISCOM site before treating a special package as bookable for your account.

High sun — honest caveats

Excellent dry-season yield; dust soiling on panels and extreme summer heat still need cleaning and inverter derating honesty. Thar-adjacent districts see fierce summer temperatures — inverters belong in shaded, ventilated spaces, not a tin shed roof edge. Monsoon months (July–August) trim annual totals versus winter peaks. Size from annual bill units, not a vendor’s pan-Rajasthan average slide.

Jaipur city guide

Most Jaipur metro homes sit on JVVNL. For Jaipur-specific slab context, terrace realities in Mansarovar / Vaishali Nagar layouts, and typical 3 kW economics: rooftop solar in Jaipur.

Sizing honesty

Many mid-to-high bill Rajasthan homes land near 3 kW to capture the full central CFA ceiling. Going to 5 kW adds capacity with no extra central CFA — see 3 kW vs 5 kW and net metering in India.
