Portal walkthrough · 2026
Applications live only on the national portal. Sealix is not that portal. Use this page as a plain-English map of the usual consumer journey, then confirm buttons and labels on pmsuryaghar.gov.in — UI text changes over time.

Before OTP registration, know whether your bill recovers net cost after CFA. A 3 kW plant often hits the common ₹78,000 residential ceiling; larger plants rarely get more central CFA. Run the free home check, then confirm eligibility. If the portal itself blocks you at registration or login, work through portal login problems.
Most stalls start before you ever see “Apply.” Line these up once:
On the national portal, start consumer registration / login. You will typically enter:
If consumer data fails to sync from the DISCOM API, use the portal’s refresh / validation path before you force a wrong number. Wrong CAN = stalled application. After login, open Apply for Rooftop Solar (wording may vary) to start a new file.
Typical fields: applicant details (often auto-fetched from the DISCOM), proposed plant capacity in kW, category, and an electricity bill upload. Use the portal calculator if offered — treat it as indicative, not a Sealix quote. Save and submit so you receive an application ID / reference; screenshot it.
Bank details for CFA often appear later in the journey (or earlier, depending on portal version). Prefer an account whose name matches the bill / Aadhaar path your DISCOM expects — name mismatch is a top DBT delay.
Rules for technical feasibility vary by state and plant size. Some low-capacity residential applications move with lighter DISCOM friction (including deemed / time-bound paths where published); others still need site study and uploads. Follow your DISCOM’s live checklist inside the portal — do not skip steps because a WhatsApp vendor says they are “optional.”
Do not start installation until feasibility shows approval (or your DISCOM’s published equivalent). Early install is the most expensive mistake on this path. Track status inside your login: application status guide.
Choose a vendor listed for your DISCOM on the portal (MNRE / portal empanelled list — not a flyer QR). Sign the work agreement and upload it when the portal asks. Prefer written scope: ALMM modules, inverter, structure, net-meter coordination, and warranty. Non-listed “cash subsidy” shops are a red flag. How to read the list: empanelled vendor guide.
CFA is processed after verification — not as a shop-floor cash discount on day one. See subsidy amounts. Keep final vendor payment tied to commissioning / net meter, not to “panels on roof.”
When the portal status allows, redeem or track CFA against your application. Timelines are weeks to months depending on DISCOM queue and document completeness. Keep screenshots of application ID and status changes. Payment delays are a separate checklist from feasibility stalls — subsidy status & delays.
The national consumer journey may offer a loan / Jan Samarth-linked option for eligible applicants. That is separate from CFA. Read rooftop solar loans in India before stacking EMI on a weak bill case.

Register on the national portal with your state, district, DISCOM and electricity consumer number, verified by mobile OTP. Submit the rooftop application with proposed capacity and a bill upload to receive an application ID. Clear the DISCOM feasibility stage. Select a vendor listed for your DISCOM and sign the work agreement. After installation, upload geo-tagged photos and bank details, and complete the metering agreement and commissioning documents. Then redeem or track the subsidy against your application.
The most common cause is an incorrect consumer number, since a wrong CAN stalls the application. If your consumer data fails to sync from the DISCOM API, use the portal's refresh or validation path rather than forcing a wrong number through. Applications also stall when steps are skipped because a vendor described them as optional, and when document uploads are incomplete at the feasibility stage.
After verification, by direct benefit transfer to the bank account you submit, once installation and the required commissioning steps are complete. It is not a shop-floor cash discount on day one. Timelines run from weeks to months depending on the DISCOM queue and how complete your documents are, so keep screenshots of your application ID and each status change.
Vendor selection comes after registration and application submission, and you should choose from those listed for your DISCOM on the portal. Insist on written scope covering ALMM modules, inverter, structure, net-meter coordination and warranty. A shop offering a cash subsidy while not being listed on the portal is a red flag.
Establish whether the money works before you register, because the portal will not tell you this. Check whether your bill recovers the net cost after assistance. A 3 kW plant often reaches the common ₹78,000 residential ceiling, and larger plants rarely attract more central assistance, so the subsidy-optimal size is usually 3 kW rather than the largest system your roof allows.
No, they are separate money flows. The national consumer journey may offer a loan option for eligible applicants, often linked to Jan Samarth, but that is credit and the subsidy is assistance. Do not let a vendor present an instalment on the pre-subsidy price while implying the subsidy covers itself, and think carefully before adding an instalment to a weak bill case.
Have your latest electricity bill with a readable consumer number, confirm the correct DISCOM for multi-utility states, check that proposed plant capacity fits sanctioned load or plan load enhancement first, and keep scans of bill, ID, roof or ownership proof, and bank proof ready. Do not install panels before feasibility shows approval.
Delays
Fix the consumer name with the DISCOM or align the applicant to the meter holder before you re-file. Portal KYC is strict for a reason — DBT goes to a verified account.
Upload requirements are not decorative. Incomplete photo sets block commissioning / CFA even when panels are already on the roof.
Switch to a listed vendor or you risk losing the CFA path entirely. Hardware already bought off-portal is hard to retrofit into scheme compliance.
