PM Surya Ghar documents required — checklist before you upload

Most rejections are paperwork, not sunshine. Assemble bill, identity, bank and roof-rights proofs that match on name before you pay a vendor. Sealix is not the national portal — confirm the live upload list on pmsuryaghar.gov.in.

Direct answer

For a typical residential PM Surya Ghar file you will need: latest electricity bill (consumer number readable), Aadhaar with OTP-linked mobile, bank proof showing account number and IFSC, and proof of roof / property rights (sale deed, allotment letter, or society / landlord NOC when you do not solely own the terrace). After installation you also submit vendor agreement, module / inverter details, geo-tagged photos and bank details for DBT. Treat the portal checklist on the day you apply as final.

Before you apply (assemble these first)

CategoryTypical documentWatch for
Electricity proofLatest DISCOM bill (PDF / clear photo)Consumer number (not meter serial), tariff, sanctioned load; name matches applicant
IdentityAadhaar (both sides)Mobile number for OTP; spelling matches bill
Bank / DBTPassbook first page or cancelled chequeAccount in applicant name; IFSC visible; Aadhaar-seeded for DBT
Roof rightsSale deed / allotment / lease + NOC if sharedTerrace ownership clear for apartments
PhotoPassport-size photograph if askedClear face; format the portal accepts

Some states or vendors also ask for PAN. If the portal requests it, upload it; if not, do not invent a requirement from an old blog. Bill-first economics before paperwork sprints: free home check.

Photo and scan quality (silent rejections)

An unreadable upload is treated like a missing document. Re-scan once cleanly instead of arguing with a blurry file for a week.

Consumer number vs meter serial

Enter the consumer / SC / CA number from the bill, not the number stamped on the physical meter. Circles with region-coded SC strings need the full format. Wrong ID = DISCOM cannot find your connection even when every PDF is perfect. Deep dive on rejection patterns: application mistakes.

After installation (what usually gets uploaded next)

  1. Vendor agreement / work order on portal formats
  2. Module and inverter make, model, serials (ALMM-eligible modules where required — ALMM & DCR)
  3. Geo-tagged installation photographs (roof + panels + inverter label)
  4. Bank details / cancelled cheque for CFA DBT
  5. Any DISCOM inspection checklist items your circle publishes

Incomplete photo sets and serial typos send files back for correction. Subsidy timing: subsidy status guide · progress map: application status.

What usually does not belong in the first upload

Name-match and joint ownership

DBT and DISCOM auto-fetch fail when the bill is in a spouse’s name, the bank account is joint with a different primary name, or the Aadhaar spelling differs by initials. Fix identity alignment before you shortlist vendors. Tenants and joint owners almost always need written consent — apartments: apartment rooftop solar · society NOC · tenants.

DISCOM-specific extras

National documents are similar; local friction differs:

If applied capacity exceeds sanctioned load, budget load enhancement separately — CFA does not pay that charge.

What Sealix does and does not do

We help you decide whether the bill justifies a plant and what to prepare. We do not log into your portal, we do not store your Aadhaar, and we do not approve subsidy. Official checklist: pmsuryaghar.gov.in.

Common questions

What documents are required for PM Surya Ghar?

Typically: latest electricity bill with consumer number, Aadhaar (OTP-linked mobile), bank proof showing account number and IFSC, and proof of roof / property rights. After installation you also upload vendor agreement, system details, geo-tagged photos and bank details for DBT. Exact fields follow the live national portal checklist and your DISCOM.

Do names have to match across all documents?

Yes. Consumer name on the bill, Aadhaar name, bank account name and portal applicant name should match closely. Mismatches are a common rejection reason. Joint owners and tenants often need NOC or co-owner consent — confirm what your DISCOM accepts before uploading.

Is PAN mandatory for every state?

Some explainers list PAN; the live portal and DISCOM may or may not require it for your category. Treat the national portal upload list as the authority on the day you apply, not a blog checklist. If PAN is requested, keep Aadhaar and bank details consistent with it.

Can Sealix upload documents on my portal account?

No. Sealix is an independent advisory. We help you decide whether the bill economics justify a plant and what to prepare. Official uploads, feasibility and subsidy release sit with pmsuryaghar.gov.in and your DISCOM.

Should I upload the meter number or the consumer number?

Use the consumer / service connection number printed on the electricity bill — not the serial stamped on the meter box. Mixing them up is a common portal rejection. Copy the bill field exactly, including any region or SC prefix your DISCOM uses.

How recent should my electricity bill be?

Use a recent bill (many circles expect roughly within 90 days of application). Clear arrears first, download a fresh PDF or clear photo, and check that consumer number, name, and sanctioned load are readable.
