DISCOM guide · Telangana
Homes in north Telangana, including Warangal, Hanamkonda, Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Khammam and Adilabad, apply for PM Surya Ghar with TGNPDCL selected. Here are the steps, the subsidy, the fee and approval clock, the 2025 settlement rule that changes sizing, and who to call when a file stalls.

Fast triage: Bill says TGNPDCL (or the older TSNPDCL)? Register on pmsuryaghar.gov.in with TGNPDCL, not TGSPDCL, and your service number exactly as printed. You get ₹78,000 for 3 kW; Telangana adds no state top-up for homes. A complete application up to 10 kW is deemed accepted. Since 2025, surplus units are settled every month at a low rate, so size to your bill, not your terrace. Check your bill first.
| Region | Districts | Main towns |
|---|---|---|
| Warangal belt | Hanumakonda, Warangal, Jangaon, Mahabubabad, Mulugu, Jayashankar Bhupalpally | Warangal and Hanamkonda (city guide), Kazipet, Jangaon, Mahabubabad, Bhupalpally |
| Karimnagar belt | Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla | Karimnagar, Ramagundam, Godavarikhani, Peddapalli, Jagtial, Sircilla |
| Nizamabad belt | Nizamabad, Kamareddy | Nizamabad, Bodhan, Armoor, Kamareddy |
| Adilabad belt | Adilabad, Nirmal, Mancherial, Kumram Bheem Asifabad | Adilabad, Nirmal, Mancherial, Bellampalli, Asifabad |
| Khammam belt | Khammam, Bhadradri Kothagudem | Khammam, Kothagudem, Palvancha, Bhadrachalam |
Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Medchal, Sangareddy, Medak, Siddipet, Nalgonda and Mahabubnagar are TGSPDCL. Border mandals have moved between the two companies after district changes (Gundala went from Jangaon to TGSPDCL), so trust the company name on your bill. Selecting the wrong DISCOM at registration leaves the file unprocessed.
| System | Central subsidy (PM Surya Ghar) | State top-up |
|---|---|---|
| 1 kW | ₹30,000 | None for individual homes |
| 2 kW | ₹60,000 | None for individual homes |
| 3 kW and above | ₹78,000 (the ceiling) | None for individual homes |
The subsidy is paid by DBT after commissioning, not at booking, so you fund the full price first or take a loan. Rates, a worked 3 kW EMI and the Jan Samarth steps: solar loan in Telangana. On Gruha Jyothi with a zero bill? Solar has almost nothing to save; read the 200-unit trap first.
Fee: the Telangana Electricity Regulatory Commission's net-metering regulation (Regulation 1 of 2025, gazetted 15 November 2025) sets a processing fee of ₹2,500 for LT connections (₹15,000 for HT). Telangana has not waived it the way Andhra Pradesh did, so a ₹2,500 line on a quote is normal. Ask for the receipt in your name.
Transformer limit: rooftop plants on one distribution transformer can add up to 50% of its rated capacity, first come, first served. On a crowded street transformer, a later applicant can be held at feasibility. Apply before you pay a vendor a large advance.
Under the same 2025 regulation, if you export more units than you import in a billing month, the surplus is settled that month at the lowest tariff in the Telangana DISCOMs' solar purchase agreements from the previous year. The amount goes to your next bill or your bank account. That rate is a fraction of what you pay per unit at home, and surplus no longer carries over to cover a heavy summer month.
In practice: a unit you use while the panels run saves your full tariff; a surplus unit earns very little. A 5 kW plant on a home that uses 250 units a month mostly manufactures cheap exports. Size from 12 months of bills, and treat a "your terrace fits 6 kW" pitch with suspicion. Sizing help: 3 kW vs 5 kW.
By late September 2026, 29,621 rooftop solar connections (about 97 MW) were registered in the TGNPDCL area, with about 20,000 more applications in process (around 60 MW). TGNPDCL ran "Seva Sethu" camps at all division headquarters from 1 to 3 October 2026, with TGREDCO and bank staff explaining the application, subsidy, loans and net metering, and says the camps will be extended to towns and villages. If your file has sat for weeks, a camp or the division office is the fastest place to ask.
Ramagundam, Adilabad and the Godavari belt see some of Telangana's hottest summers. Panels lose output as they heat up, and an inverter in afternoon sun can throttle itself in the best hours. Ask for a raised mounting structure with airflow underneath and an inverter on a shaded, ventilated wall. Many vendors quoting in Warangal or Karimnagar are based in Hyderabad, so get the service commitment for your town in writing.
Solar only saves the units you pay for. Homes on Gruha Jyothi with a zero bill, or averaging under about 150 to 200 units a month, rarely pay back. From roughly a ₹1,500 monthly bill, a 3 kW plant with the ₹78,000 subsidy usually does, especially in homes that regularly cross 200 units and lose the free-power benefit for the whole month. Prices: 3 kW · 5 kW.
An independent advisory: not TGNPDCL, not TGREDCO and not an installer. We don't file applications or sell panels. We read your bill and tell you straight whether rooftop solar pays: free bill check for Warangal · Karimnagar · Khammam · Nizamabad.
TGNPDCL (Northern Power Distribution Company of Telangana) serves 18 northern districts: Hanumakonda, Warangal, Jangaon, Mahabubabad, Mulugu, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Nizamabad, Kamareddy, Adilabad, Nirmal, Mancherial, Kumram Bheem Asifabad, Khammam and Bhadradri Kothagudem. Hyderabad and the southern districts are TGSPDCL. On the PM Surya Ghar portal, select TGNPDCL if that is the company printed on your bill.
The central PM Surya Ghar subsidy: ₹30,000 for 1 kW, ₹60,000 for 2 kW and ₹78,000 for 3 kW and above, paid by DBT after commissioning. Telangana does not add a general state top-up for individual homes, so plan on the central amount only.
Telangana's 2025 net-metering regulation sets a processing fee of ₹2,500 for LT (home) connections; unlike Andhra Pradesh, it has not been waived. The DISCOM must acknowledge or list deficiencies within 7 working days. A complete application for a plant up to 10 kW is deemed accepted without a technical feasibility study, and any load enhancement it needs is to be carried out by the DISCOM.
Start with the Assistant Divisional Engineer (Operations) for your area, with your application and service numbers. The Divisional Engineer (Operations) is the nodal officer for net metering. TGNPDCL's 24x7 lines are 1912 and 1800-425-0028, and the TGREDCO helpdesk on 040-48526869 handles PM Surya Ghar scheme questions. If the file is still stuck, use the grievance option on pmsuryaghar.gov.in.
