Solar loan in Telangana (2026): rates, EMI and which bank

You can finance a rooftop plant in Hyderabad or anywhere in Telangana through the PM Surya Ghar bank scheme. That means 5.75% up to ₹2 lakh, a 10% down payment, up to 10 years, and no property collateral. Here is what a 3 kW plant really costs a month, and when a loan is a bad idea.

Last reviewed

Fast triage: Hyderabad / Telangana solar loan under PM Surya Ghar banks: a 3 kW plant (about ₹1,90,000) costs roughly ₹1,880 a month over 10 years, falling to about ₹1,020 once the ₹78,000 subsidy is credited to the loan (worked EMI). It makes sense if your bill is about ₹2,000 a month or more. If you are on Gruha Jyothi and under 200 units, your bill is already zero, so don't borrow. CFA amounts: solar subsidy Telangana. Rates are the banks' published figures and float with their benchmark rate, so confirm the rate on your sanction letter. Bank of Baroda publishes the same 5.75% up to ₹2 lakh. The PIB scheme note describes these as collateral-free loans "at around 7%" for plants up to 3 kW, and banks have priced below that since late 2025. There is no separate Telangana state solar loan or state top-up for homes; you get the central subsidy (₹30,000 for 1 kW, ₹60,000 for 2 kW, ₹78,000 for 3 kW and above). See the Telangana hub for the subsidy table.

Which bank in Telangana

Worked EMI: a 3 kW plant in Hyderabad

A 3 kW plant typically makes about 350–400 units a month in Telangana. Using an illustrative quote of ₹1,90,000 (use your own quote):

StepAmount
Quote (3 kW, empanelled vendor)₹1,90,000
Your 10% down payment₹19,000
Loan at 5.75%₹1,71,000
EMI over 10 yearsabout ₹1,880 a month
EMI over 5 yearsabout ₹3,290 a month
Subsidy credited after commissioning₹78,000 (to the loan account at SBI)
Balance after subsidy, then over 10 yearsabout ₹93,000 → about ₹1,020 a month

When it works: if your top slab costs ₹7–9 a unit, those 350–400 units save very roughly ₹2,500–3,200 a month, comfortably above a ₹1,880 EMI and far above ₹1,020. That is typically a home billing ₹2,000–4,000 a month. When it doesn't: if your bill is ₹800–1,200, most of what the plant offsets is cheap low-slab units, and the EMI can exceed the saving. For a 5 kW plant (around ₹3,00,000), a ₹2,70,000 loan at 7.90% over 10 years is about ₹3,260 a month, so it only suits bills well above ₹4,000.

Two timing traps: EMIs can start before the DISCOM installs your net meter, so keep two or three months of buffer. And the subsidy arrives weeks or months after commissioning. Ask in writing whether the bank will cut the EMI or the tenure when it lands. General financing guidance is in our rooftop solar loan guide.

On Gruha Jyothi? Read this before borrowing

Telangana's Gruha Jyothi scheme gives eligible white-ration-card households a zero bill up to 200 units a month. Above 200 units, the whole month is billed at normal tariff, not just the extra units.

How to apply: portal first, loan second

  1. Register on pmsuryaghar.gov.in with your TGSPDCL or TGNPDCL consumer number (Hyderabad and the south are TGSPDCL, Warangal and the north are TGNPDCL: TGNPDCL guide). Name mismatches? See TGSPDCL name correction.
  2. Get DISCOM feasibility, then choose an empanelled vendor and get an itemised quote (panels, inverter, structure, net meter).
  3. Apply for the loan on jansamarth.in using the portal application. You'll need KYC, latest bill, bank statement and, above ₹2 lakh, PAN and income proof.
  4. The bank pays the vendor after sanction; the vendor installs; the DISCOM inspects and fits the net meter.
  5. Upload bank details on the portal and claim the subsidy; at SBI you give the loan account number so the ₹78,000 goes straight against the loan.

Help in person: TGSPDCL ran "Seva Setu" camps on 2–4 October 2026 and TGNPDCL ran "Seva Sethu" camps at all division headquarters on 1–3 October 2026, with TGREDCO and bank staff explaining loans, documents and net metering. TGNPDCL says the camps will extend to villages and towns. The TGREDCO helpdesk is 040-48526869, and the TGSPDCL helpline is 1912.

Where Sealix fits, honestly

We don't lend money and we aren't a bank, a DISCOM or an installer. What we do is the step most people skip: check whether your bill can carry the EMI before you take one. A free bill check tells you the plant size that pays back on your bill and what the EMI looks like against it.

Common questions

What is the interest rate on a rooftop solar loan in Telangana?

Under the PM Surya Ghar bank scheme, public sector banks publish 5.75% a year (floating) for loans up to ₹2 lakh, which covers most plants up to 3 kW, and 7.90% a year for loans above ₹2 lakh up to ₹6 lakh (plants up to 10 kW). These are SBI's and Bank of Baroda's published rates; they are linked to the bank's external benchmark, so confirm the rate on the day you apply. The terms are the same in Telangana as elsewhere; there is no separate Telangana state solar loan for homes.

What is the EMI for a 3 kW solar system in Telangana?

On a ₹1,90,000 quote with a 10% down payment, you borrow ₹1,71,000. At 5.75% over 10 years the EMI is about ₹1,880 a month; over 5 years about ₹3,290. When the ₹78,000 central subsidy is credited (SBI asks for the loan account number so it can be credited there), the balance falls to about ₹93,000, which over 10 years works out to about ₹1,020 a month. Ask your bank whether it reduces the EMI or the tenure after the subsidy lands.

Do I need collateral or a good CIBIL score for a solar loan?

No property collateral is needed for loans up to ₹2 lakh; the plant itself is the security. SBI sets no minimum CIBIL score up to ₹2 lakh (but excludes defaults and write-offs) and asks for 650+ above ₹2 lakh, along with PAN and income proof. Telangana Grameena Bank asks for a CIBIL score of 675+ and lends ₹25,000 to ₹6 lakh in its operating districts.

How do I apply for a solar loan in Telangana?

Register on pmsuryaghar.gov.in with your TGSPDCL or TGNPDCL consumer number, get feasibility, choose an empanelled vendor, then apply for the loan on jansamarth.in (or through the bank's PM Surya Ghar loan page). The bank pays the vendor; you claim the subsidy on the portal after commissioning. TGSPDCL and TGNPDCL Seva Sethu camps in October 2026 had bank staff on hand, and the TGREDCO helpdesk is 040-48526869.

I get free power under Gruha Jyothi. Should I take a solar loan?

Usually not if you stay under 200 units a month, because your bill is already zero and a loan would add an EMI with nothing to save. If you sometimes cross 200 units, remember Gruha Jyothi then bills the whole month at normal tariff, so a small plant could keep you under the line. Ask your section office how net-metered months are counted for Gruha Jyothi before you size a plant or borrow.
