DISCOM guide · Gujarat
Torrent Power is the private licensee for Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and Surat city. Its homes use the same SURYA Gujarat portal and get the same central subsidy as GUVNL homes, but the field work runs through Torrent's own desks, estimate and meters. Here is each step, who does it, and where files usually wait.

Fast triage: If your bill says Torrent Power, your empanelled vendor applies for you on the SURYA Gujarat portal. Homes cannot apply offline. Subsidy: ₹78,000 central for 3 kW; we could not verify a state top-up. Torrent supplies the net meter; the solar meter comes through the Torrent estimate. Check your bill first.
| City | Torrent Power | Outside Torrent's area |
|---|---|---|
| Ahmedabad | City licence area | UGVCL in the outskirts and north |
| Gandhinagar | City licence area | UGVCL |
| Surat | Much of the city core, including many Varachha, Adajan and Athwa homes | DGVCL in the periphery and rest of south Gujarat |
| Dahej | Licence area (mostly industrial) | DGVCL |
Picking the wrong company sends the file to the wrong desk. Read the bill header, not your pin code. City detail: Ahmedabad · Surat. Every other Gujarat DISCOM is covered on the Gujarat hub.
Torrent's published procedure for private residential customers, in order:
About the agreement: under GERC's fifth net-metering amendment (2025), PM Surya Ghar homes are treated as bound by the regulations from the commissioning date, with no separate written connectivity agreement. Torrent's older FAQ still lists one. If your file is held for an agreement, ask the zone office whether it is still required for a PM Surya Ghar home.
| System | Central (PM Surya Ghar) |
|---|---|
| 1 kW | ₹30,000 |
| 2 kW | ₹60,000 |
| 3 kW and above | ₹78,000 (cap) |
The subsidy is paid into your bank account after commissioning. On SURYA Gujarat, the usual practice is that you pay the vendor the price net of subsidy, so read the quote carefully: it should show the full price, the subsidy and what you pay. Older Surya Gujarat state-subsidy resolutions are still online, but we found no current state top-up for general homes, so treat any "state subsidy" line as upside until it appears on your application. Compare: state top-up subsidies.
Non-residential customers pay for all meters themselves and apply offline through GEDA, so a shop or office on the same building follows a different route.
Track on SURYA Gujarat's Track application page with your application number, consumer number and mobile number. You can also upload the receipt for the payment made to the installer there. Where the portal's own FAQ points:
Torrent lists zone-wise places to submit solar documents on its customer portal's solar guide, so use the zone office for your address.
Gujarat has some of India's best sun, so a 3 kW plant in Ahmedabad or Surat typically makes 350–400 units a month. Homes with an AC and a bill of ₹2,500 or more usually recover the post-subsidy cost fastest; under about 150 units a month, payback stretches. Exported units are settled under the tariff order in force when you commission and are worth less than units you use. Sizing: 3 kW vs 5 kW · prices: 3 kW · 5 kW.
An independent advisory: not Torrent Power, not GUVNL and not an installer. We don't file applications or sell panels. We read your bill and tell you whether rooftop solar pays: free bill check for Gujarat homes.
Residential Torrent Power customers apply online through an empanelled vendor on the GUVNL SURYA Gujarat unified portal; there is no separate offline route for homes. Torrent checks the documents, asks the vendor to pay the solar estimate on the Torrent portal, registers the application, gives feasibility approval, and after installation fits the import-export meter and solar meter and reports commissioning to GUVNL.
Yes. Torrent Power domestic consumers in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and Surat get the same central PM Surya Ghar subsidy as GUVNL consumers: ₹30,000 for 1 kW, ₹60,000 for 2 kW and ₹78,000 for 3 kW or more, paid to your bank account after commissioning. We could not verify a current Gujarat state top-up for general homes.
For residential customers Torrent provides the net (import-export) meter. The solar generation meter is charged through the solar estimate, which the empanelled vendor pays on the Torrent portal and normally passes on in your quote. Ask the vendor to show the Torrent estimate as a separate line.
Check the company name on your bill. Torrent Power supplies the Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar city licence areas, Surat city and Dahej. Homes outside those areas are billed by a GUVNL company: UGVCL in north Gujarat including Ahmedabad's outskirts, DGVCL around Surat and south Gujarat, MGVCL in central Gujarat and PGVCL in Saurashtra and Kutch.
