DISCOM guide · Madhya Pradesh
Madhya Pradesh homes apply for PM Surya Ghar through one of three DISCOMs whose acronyms differ by one or two letters. Here is how to pick the right one, what subsidy you actually get, what the 2026 MPERC order waived, and where the state stands on installs.

Fast triage: Match the full company name on your bill: West (Indore), Central (Bhopal) or East (Jabalpur). Plan on the central ₹78,000 for 3 kW; we can't verify a general MP state top-up. For PM Surya Ghar homes, MPERC waived processing, testing and commissioning charges in 2026 and moved the agreement online, but the meter cost still applies. Check your bill first.
| DISCOM | Divisions | Main cities |
|---|---|---|
| MPPKVVCL Paschim Kshetra (West), Indore | Indore, Ujjain | Indore, Ujjain, Dewas, Ratlam, Dhar, Khargone, Khandwa, Mandsaur, Neemuch |
| MPMKVVCL Madhya Kshetra (Central), Bhopal | Bhopal, Narmadapuram, Gwalior, Chambal | Bhopal, Sehore, Vidisha, Narmadapuram, Betul, Gwalior, Shivpuri, Guna, Morena, Bhind |
| MPPoKVVCL Purv Kshetra (East), Jabalpur | Jabalpur, Sagar, Rewa, Shahdol | Jabalpur, Katni, Chhindwara, Sagar, Damoh, Rewa, Satna, Singrauli, Shahdol |
MPPKVVCL (West) and MPPoKVVCL (East) differ by one letter, and some pages even shorten the East company to "MPPKVVL". Selecting the wrong one leaves the file sitting with a DISCOM that has no record of your connection. Copy the company name from the bill header, not from a vendor's form. | 3 kW and above | ₹78,000 (the ceiling) | None we can verify for general homes |
Some installer guides mention an MP state subsidy for BPL homes. We could not find a current order for it, so treat it as unconfirmed until it appears on your application. The central amount is paid by DBT after commissioning, and MP's energy minister has stressed that the names on the bank account, Aadhaar and electricity bill must match for the transfer to go through. MP Urja Vikas Nigam petitioned MPERC (Petition 137 of 2025) to apply the Ministry of Power's August 2025 advice on simplifying rooftop solar. The DISCOMs supported it, and in April 2026 the Commission allowed it for domestic rooftop solar under PM Surya Ghar:
MPERC then published a draft first amendment to its 2024 grid-interactive regulations (18 June 2026) to write these changes in. If a quote still carries a "DISCOM processing" or "testing" line for a PM Surya Ghar home, ask the vendor what it is for.
By 5 August 2026 MP had about 2.27 lakh applications and 1.61 lakh installed rooftop systems (around 602 MW), with roughly ₹1,131 crore of central subsidy paid. Reports at the time noted MP trails several large states on applications, and that about six in ten buyers financed the plant with a loan. By DISCOM at the end of June 2026: West 58,715 systems (₹416 crore), Central 51,343 (₹362 crore), East 33,092 (₹232 crore). By early September the West DISCOM had passed 69,069 plants and ₹502 crore, nearly 30,000 of them in Indore district.

The Malwa plateau around Indore, Ujjain and Bhopal gets strong irradiance, so a kW here produces more than in a coastal city. That shortens payback but doesn't change the rule: size to what you use. Summer heat cuts panel output in May, and dust on panels is a steady loss unless they are washed. Ask for a raised structure with airflow and a shaded inverter. Sizing help: 3 kW vs 5 kW · generation per kW.
Solar only saves the units you pay for. With ₹78,000 off and strong sun, homes using 250 units or more a month usually get a good payback; homes under about 150 units rarely do. Prices: 3 kW · 5 kW.
An independent advisory: not an MP DISCOM, not MP Urja Vikas Nigam and not an installer. We don't file applications or sell panels. We read your bill and tell you whether rooftop solar pays: free bill check for MP homes.
The company on your bill. MPPKVVCL (West, Indore) covers the Indore and Ujjain divisions. MPMKVVCL (Central, Bhopal) covers the Bhopal, Narmadapuram, Gwalior and Chambal divisions. MPPoKVVCL (East, Jabalpur) covers the Jabalpur, Sagar, Rewa and Shahdol divisions. The acronyms are easy to mix up, so match the full company name on the bill.
Not for general homes, as far as we can verify in October 2026. MP homes get the central PM Surya Ghar subsidy: ₹30,000 for 1 kW, ₹60,000 for 2 kW and ₹78,000 for 3 kW and above. If a vendor promises an MP state top-up, ask for the order number and check it appears on your application.
Yes for service charges. In April 2026 MPERC allowed the petition of MP Urja Vikas Nigam (Petition 137 of 2025): application, registration and processing fees, meter testing fees and installation or commissioning charges are waived for domestic rooftop solar under PM Surya Ghar, and the net-metering agreement is executed online within the application. The cost of the meter itself is not waived.
About 1.61 lakh by 5 August 2026, from roughly 2.27 lakh applications, with about 602 MW installed and around ₹1,131 crore of central subsidy paid. The West DISCOM alone reported 69,069 plants and over ₹502 crore paid by early September 2026, nearly 30,000 of them in Indore district.
