Independent advice for TGSPDCL domestic connections in Hyderabad and Secunderabad. Strong daytime loads and slab tariffs help economics — high-rise shade in IT corridors is the usual on-site check.

Hyderabad terraces are often RCC with heavy daytime loads — AC, geysers, and borewell pumps. The question is whether your TGSPDCL bill is high enough to recover net cost after central CFA. Sealix advises; we are not TGSPDCL and not your installer. Start with the free home check.
Central residential CFA is commonly ₹30,000 / ₹60,000 / up to ₹78,000 for eligible 1–3 kW+ systems, claimed via pmsuryaghar.gov.in after DISCOM process and commissioning. Telangana does not add a separate Sealix subsidy — apply on the national portal selecting TGSPDCL. Full walkthrough: PM Surya Ghar guide.
Apply on the national portal selecting TGSPDCL, then follow DISCOM feasibility and net-meter steps. Smaller residential plants often move under simplified or deemed-approval paths when complete applications stay within published capacity rules — still confirm live TGSPDCL wording before installing.
If applied PV capacity exceeds sanctioned load, TGSPDCL may trigger a load-enhancement path with charges. Do not treat that as free upsizing; factor it into net economics.
Independent bungalows in Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills, and older Secunderabad cantonment areas often have clear roof rights. Apartment societies on shared terraces in Gachibowli, Kukatpally, and Madhapur usually need society resolution / NOC — often the longest calendar item.
High-rise shade is the other Hyderabad-specific issue: neighbouring towers block afternoon sun in dense corridors. Size from annual bill units, not a vendor’s “Telangana average kWh” slide.
Grid-tied rooftop solar needs a bi-directional net meter from TGSPDCL. Settlement rules follow the tariff order in force at commissioning — confirm live wording on the DISCOM portal before signing an installer quote. National explainer: net metering in India.
Most Indian cities have a consumption problem for solar: households draw their heaviest load in the evening, after generation has stopped. Hyderabad is a partial exception, and it is the most useful thing to understand about buying here — because it changes what your plant is worth rather than what it produces.
The reason is that a unit consumed while the panels are generating avoids your full retail tariff, including the expensive upper slabs. A surplus unit exported is settled at whatever the tariff order allows, which is less. So two households with identical bills, identical roofs and identical plants can see materially different savings, depending purely on when the electricity is used.
Hyderabad households frequently have genuine daytime load. Borewell pumps run during the day. RCC terraces and long hot seasons mean cooling often runs well before evening. Geysers, washing machines and dishwashers are daytime-flexible. And a substantial share of the city's working population is home during the day at least part of the week, which puts air conditioning squarely inside generating hours. Where that is true, a large fraction of your output is self-consumed at full tariff rather than exported cheaply — and that is the best return solar offers.
This follows directly, and it is free. Because self-consumed units are worth more than exported ones, shifting flexible load into daylight hours improves your return with no additional capital. For many Hyderabad homes this is a better investment than adding capacity.
Practically: run the washing machine and dishwasher at midday rather than at night. Heat water during the afternoon rather than early morning. Schedule the borewell pump for the middle of the day. If you charge a vehicle and are home, charge it in the afternoon. Pre-cool the house in the late afternoon while generation is still strong, rather than starting from a hot house after sunset.
None of this requires equipment, and collectively it can move a meaningful share of consumption from the low-value exported bucket into the high-value self-consumed one. Conversely, if your household is genuinely empty from morning to evening every day, be more conservative about system size, because the extra capacity is exporting at the weaker rate — the arithmetic is in 3 kW vs 5 kW and net metering in India.
Three checks, in this order, because each can override the one after it.
Sanctioned load, from your bill. If your applied capacity exceeds it, a load enhancement may be required, carrying charges and a timeline that central assistance does not cover. Read this before deciding capacity, not after — the detail is in the TGSPDCL guide.
Whether the terrace is yours. In the dense mid-rise belt around LB Nagar, Uppal and Dilsukhnagar, and in apartment complexes across Gachibowli, Kukatpally and Madhapur, the terrace is frequently common property. A written society resolution is required and is usually the longest item in the calendar. Independent bungalows in Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills and the older Secunderabad cantonment areas typically have clearer rights.
An actual shade assessment. Tower growth in the western IT corridor means a currently clear terrace can be overshadowed later, and a shadow across one panel can drag down the whole string it sits on. Walk the roof at mid-morning, noon and mid-afternoon before accepting any generation estimate, and treat a vendor's "Telangana average" figure as a starting point rather than a projection.
Many mid-bill Hyderabad homes land near 3 kW to capture the full central CFA ceiling. Going to 5 kW adds capacity with no extra central CFA — only worth it if units truly exceed what 3 kW offsets. See 3 kW vs 5 kW, 3 kW price bands, and ₹3,000/month bill guide.
West / IT corridor (Gachibowli, Madhapur, Kondapur, Financial District): high daytime office-adjacent loads at home, but tower shade and society NOCs dominate. Model generation after a shade walk — not a brochure “Telangana kWh.”
Central & north (Secunderabad, Begumpet, Trimulgherry): older RCC bungalows often have clearer roof rights; tree shade and water tanks still matter.
South & east (LB Nagar, Uppal, Dilsukhnagar belt): dense mid-rise; confirm whether the meter is TGSPDCL and whether the terrace is exclusive or common property before portal filing.

Central residential assistance is commonly ₹30,000, ₹60,000 or up to ₹78,000 for eligible systems from 1 kW upwards, claimed through pmsuryaghar.gov.in after the DISCOM process and commissioning. Telangana does not add a separate amount of its own for general residential consumers, so model your economics on the central figure and select TGSPDCL on the national portal.
Society resolution or approval for apartments on shared terraces, which is usually the longest item in the calendar, particularly in Gachibowli, Kukatpally and Madhapur. High-rise shade from neighbouring towers in dense corridors is the other Hyderabad-specific issue, though that is a design constraint rather than a delay. Independent bungalows in Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills and older Secunderabad cantonment areas typically have clearer roof rights.
If your applied PV capacity exceeds your sanctioned load, TGSPDCL may require a load enhancement, which carries charges that central assistance does not cover. Do not treat additional capacity as free upsizing. Read your sanctioned load from the bill first, then decide capacity, then sign.
From your own annual bill units and an actual shade assessment, not from a vendor's Telangana average figure. In the western IT corridor in particular, tower shade means a shade walk should precede any generation model. Hyderabad terraces are often RCC with heavy daytime loads from air conditioning, geysers and borewell pumps, which is favourable because that consumption coincides with generation.
In the dense mid-rise belt around LB Nagar, Uppal and Dilsukhnagar, confirm two things before portal filing: that your meter is genuinely with TGSPDCL rather than a neighbouring distribution area, and whether the terrace is exclusive to you or common property. Both determine whether an application can proceed at all.
Many mid-bill Hyderabad homes land near 3 kW, which captures the full central assistance ceiling. Moving to 5 kW adds capacity that attracts no extra central assistance, so it is worth it only if your units genuinely exceed what 3 kW offsets and your sanctioned load permits the larger plant without an enhancement charge.
